What does Joy Learning do?

Joy Learning connects online tutors with tutees and provides a platform in which online lessons can take place. Privacy is very important to us and we are committed to protecting it. Below we have detailed the information that we keep, how you can access this information, update it or have it deleted.

What is Personal Information?

Your "personal information" is any information that can be used to identify you specifically as an individual. For example, this could be your name, telephone number, or your home address.

Personal Information that we collect through Joy Learning

In order to register with Joy Learning your email will be collected through the registration form on our website. This email will be stored in our database and used to manage your account with us. We require the listed information as a minimum in order for us to provide our service to you.

  • Your phone number

Additional information we may collect from a Client who is requesting tutoring from us are listed below:

  • Tutee’s full name

  • General information regarding tuition needs

  • Availability - Times and Day

  • Current school information including grades, exam boards and subjects

  • Your payment details

Additional information we may collect from a Tutor who is providing tutoring through us are listed below:

  • Subjects that the tutor can teach

  • A personal statement

  • Availability - Times and Day

  • Qualifications and experience

  • Photo identification (passport of Drivers License)

  • A DBS document

  • Profile photo

  • Your bank details

  • Your CV

  • Your teaching preferences

Whilst registered with Joy Learning we may also collect the following additional information:

  • Feedback from clients regarding a tutor

  • All correspondence with any tutors and clients

  • All online lessons are recorded including video and audio for child protection, these are available on request by the tutor or tutee.

Why we collect and process personal data

Joy Learning requires the information listed above in order to provide a safe and reliable tutoring service to you. We use the personal information provided to complete our administrative processes, to check the identity of our tutors, prevent fraud, ensure security and for safeguarding the children we work with. We have a legal obligation to carry out identity checks and collect personal information in order to do so. You have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at any time.

External Search Engines

Our tutor's profiles contains personal information which may show in external search engine results pages (e.g Bing or Google).

Use of Cookies, Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel

The Joy Learning website uses cookies, Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel to improve and ensure the best experience for our users by tracking our users' movements around our site and to gather demographic information about our overall user base. Joy Learning tracks usage for all website visitors and does not use cookies to store personal information about users. These tracking items include IP addresses, browser type, referring and exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp. Our users are free to disable cookies within their browser.

Our website uses google analytics and Facebook Pixel which enable us to see the date and time at which you viewed each page on Joy Learning and which internet browser and operating system you were using. We mainly use this data to see which pages are popular and other general user behaviour across Joy Learning. From this data we are not able to collect any information that identifies any individual person.

Your Rights

You have a right to protect your personal data and can access any of the rights listed below by emailing info@joylearning.co.uk.

  • Right of access - you have the right to request a copy of any information we hold about you. You have the right to correct, amend or delete inaccurate data. Any of our users can request these changes by contacting us via email at info@joylearning.co.uk. Unless there is a legal basis for storing your data, we will delete the personal data we have of you within 28 days of when you withdraw your consent.

  • Right of rectification - you have the right to ask for a correction of any data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.

  • Right to be forgotten - you have the right to ask for any data we hold about you that has good reason for us to process it, to be erased from our records.

  • Right to restriction of processing - you have the right to restrict the processing of any data we hold about you.

  • Right to object - you have the right to object to us using your data

  • Right of portability - you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.

We will not be able to erase information that is required to maintain our business purpose, we have a legal reason to keep it, or data that is required to facilitate your contract with us.

Third Party Websites

Any Email address supplied to Joy Learning through our website when signing up or completing a contact form will not be sold to 3rd parties for marketing purposes.

The Joy Learning website may link to external websites, that is, websites that are not part of Joy Learning. Joy Learning is not responsible for the content of these external internet sites. We are careful who we link to, but since the sites are out of our control they may have privacy policies which differ from Joy Learning. All pages on Joy Learning contain our logo, if the site does not contain this logo you have followed a link to an external website.

Your data may be shared with these companies to insure we can develop and maintain our services.

How we share your data

If you are a tutor we may provide your full name and profile to prospective Client in discussion of a booking with you. Your can remove your consent to have your profile shared with clients by emailing info@joylearning.co.uk.

Payment Processors

We use Stripe for our payment processing, whose use of your personal information is governed by their privacy policy. We do not store our users' financial information by default, only if our users opt in will we securely retain it for future purchases.
